Citizens without mask: BMC collects nearly Rs 50 crore in fines from citizens

Mumbai’s civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, has collected almost Rs 50 crore in fines from people who were found without masks in public places.

The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has collected nearly Rs 50 crore in fines from citizens for not wearing masks in public places since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. These Numbers Aren’t ‘Fine’ At AllAs on 2 Apr 2021, more than Rs.49 Crore has been collected as fine from citizens not wearing mask in public places across MumbaiWhile these numbers are quite high, we’d be happier if more Mumbaikars masked ‘up’ & helped bring ‘down’ the virus “So far [end of 2nd April 2021] a total fine of Rs 49 crore 15 lakh 46 thousand 800 [Rs 49,15,46,800] has been collected from the citizens walking in public without mask in Mumbai Municipal Corporation area,” said a BMC statement.
