ADGP Amrit Paul, who was chief of recruitment during the Karnataka PSI recruitment scam, has been arrested by the CID Police. Home minister Araga Jnanendra will conduct a press conference at 6 pm on Monday to provide information about developments in the probe.
Additional Director General of Police (AGDP) Amrit Paul, who was the chief of recruitment when the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recruitment scam took place, has been taken into custody by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Police. This is the first time that a sitting ADGP has been arrested in Karnataka.
While addressing the media, home minister Araga Jnanendra said, “We won’t compromise. The government has ordered CID to nab everyone involved. An enquiry is on. Let’s wait and see. We have given free rein to CID police.
“ADGP Amrit Paul is being questioned by CID, and the law will take its own course,” added the home minister. He has also called for a press conference at 6 pm on Monday, July 4 to provide updates on the latest development in the PSI recruitment scam.
Meanwhile, Karanataka Congress chief, DK Shivakumar, in conversation with India Today, said that he and Siddaramaiah are demanding the resignation of home minister Araga Jnanendra over the PSI scam.
“Tomorrow Siddaramaiah and I will hold a PC regarding this. The home minister had claimed that no one is involved in the scam in the assembly but the entire government machinery is involved. We demand the resignation of the home minister," said DK Shivakumar.
The written examination for recruiting 545 Police Sub Inspectors (PSIs) was conducted on October 3, 2021, across 92 centres in the state. Some discrepancies were reported after the results were announced. Due to this, an internal enquiry was conducted.
Upon discovering credible evidence about certain malpractices, the Home Minister, on April 7, ordered a CID investigation into the entire recruitment process and alleged malpractices.
