Churches join to take out Palm Sunday procession

On the occasion of Palm Sunday, Christians of the Roman Catholic Church, Church of South India and Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church jointly organised a procession and church service here on Sunday.
The processions were taken out from CSI St John’s Church to St. Mary’s Cathedral, Melapudur, where a holy mass was held. A video of the 14 stations of the Cross to portray Jesus Christ's agony on the Calvary path was shown.
The procession and mass were led by Rev. Fr. Savarimuthu Arokiaraj, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tiruchi, along with Rev. D. Daniel Jayaraj, Archbishop of Tranquebar, TELC, and Rev. D. Chandrasekaran, Bishop of Tiruchi-Thanjavur diocese, CSI.
Singing hymns, hundreds of people took part in the procession marking the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, and commemorating the beginning of the holy week during which Christians celebrate the assurance of their salvation through Christ’s death and his resurrection on Easter Sunday, April 17.
Christians who were observing the 40 days of lent since Ash Wednesday (March 2) to prepare for Easter with penance and prayer, offered special prayers in church after taking part in the procession.
