A chimpanzee managed to escape from its cage at the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata on Monday when the zoo authorities had gone to feed him.
A chimpanzee managed to escape from its cage at the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata on Monday when the zoo authorities had gone to feed him. He saw the cage door open and suddenly ran out of the gate.
According to the zoo officials, the incident took place at around 10.15 am. At that time, a lot of visitors, including children, were present inside the zoo.
The wild animal jumped out of the cage, descended into the water, and then swam into the surrounding moat.
The zoo management took immediate action. They removed the spectators from the premises and then brought the chimpanzee under control by tranquilizing it.
Questions were raised over the negligence of the zoo authorities. Parents of children who visit the zoo have questioned the safety measures.
