
Child rights body writes to West Bengal govt to follow Juvenile Justice Act

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has issued a notice asking the West Bengal government to follow the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 for the functioning of child care institutions.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Tuesday issued a notice to the chief secretary of West Bengal for not following the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, with respect to child care institutions in the state.
The commission in its notice mentioned how despite the country having implemented the JJ Act 2015, West Bengal continues to follow provisions of the archaic Women's and Children's Institutions (Licensing) Act, of 1956, for functioning of the child care institutions in the state.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
