The 28th national book fair in Puducherry features book exhibition, discounts, competitions, and international participation till December 22.
The 28th national book fair organised by the Puducherry Writers’ Book Society began at the Vel Sokkanathan Marriage Hall on Friday.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy inaugurated the book exhibition and also released 28 books written by various authors from Puducherry at the inaugural event. The expo will be open for the public from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all days till December 22. Educational institutions and students will get 25% discount for books purchased, the society said in a release.
Around 96 publishers, distributors, and sellers from the country and abroad, including Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Mauritius are participating in the exhibition. More than one lakh books are on display in around 100 stalls. As part of the fair, the society has organised competitions for students. Around 1,800 students participated in the institutional-level competitions and the final selection will be held at the exhibition. Winners will get gold and silver medals instituted by philanthropists in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, the release said.
