Chennai: Custom officials seize live spiders in parcel sent from Poland

Custom officials at Chennai international airport seized a postal parcel containing live spiders. The parcel had arrived from Poland at Foreign Post Office.

Based on a tip, Chennai Air Customs intercepted a postal parcel which arrived from Poland at Foreign Post Office on suspicion of containing some arthropod or invertebrate species. The parcel was addressed to a person based in Arupukotai in Tamil Nadu. Upon checking the parcel, a thermocol box was found which contained 107 small plastic vials wrapped in silver foil and cotton. On examination, live spiders were found inside each vial.
