Chennai BJP leader murder: Opposition slams DMK over law and order situation in Tamil Nadu

Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have blamed the DMK for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, following the death of a BJP leader in Chennai.
A BJP functionary was hacked to death by an unknown gang in Chennai on Tuesday, May 24. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has assured action against the culprits while the Opposition AIADMK has accused DMK of deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Speaking to India Today, TKS Elangovan said the police officials are taking action against criminals.
"These are gang issues and vendetta issues. The EPS government used to hide the cases. Now as police are taking action against criminals, all these cases are coming to light," he said.
Reacting to state BJP chief Annamalai's statement of 'inactive' police, Elangovan said, "Police is not under DMK control, they are acting independently and they are taking strict actions as well."
"All these criminals are being caught because of their efficiency. Also, in some cases, DMK functionaries who were found guilty have also been arrested. Police is acting independently," he added.
AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan accused the DMK of deteriorating law and order situation in the state. There have been around 660 murders in the last 6-7 months, he claimed.
The BJP leader Balachandar was the Chennai Central SC/ST wing president for the party. He was hacked to death by three men on Tuesday.
