
Chennai battles fresh fever cases amid wet spells

According to doctors, such infections are reported after heavy rainfall and this is the fever season for the city.
Chennai, which is already battling heavy rains, is now facing a fresh challenge. The city is seeing a flood of new diseases such as flu, respiratory and stomach infections and viral conjunctivitis. People have been waiting outside doctors' clinics across the city over the last three days, especially the elderly and children, who need in-patient care.
According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), fever clinics set up by the Greater Chennai Corporation have also seen a hike in water-borne illness diarrhoea cases over the last two weeks. As per the reports, patients are reporting flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough and body pain, while others have been diagnosed with diarrhoea and acute gastritis symptoms. Some have also reported severe upper respiratory tract infections.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
