
CBI takes over 2017 rape and murder case of two minor Kerala sisters

The CBI has taken over the case of rape and murder of two minor sisters in Kerala who were found dead at their home within two months in 2017.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe of the rape and suicide case of two minor sisters from the Kerala Police, officials said on Thursday. Both the sisters were found dead at their home within two months in 2017. During its probe, the Walayar Police had lodged two separate FIRs against four accused, however, the prime accused were acquitted by a special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso). Aggrieved by the judgment of the Pocso court, the Kerala government and the victims’ mother filed an appeal before the Kerala high court, which passed an order and abated the acquittal of the accused in 2019.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
