Can't claim immunity after poking fun at religion like stand-up comedians: Madras HC to evangelist

The court made the observation while hearing a plea by Father P George Ponniah who was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) allegedly for outraging religious sentiments.

The Madras High Court has ruled that an evangelist, who had made offending remarks against Hindus, cannot invoke the same rights as a stand-up comedian after poking fun at religion.

The High Court made the observation while hearing a plea by Father P George Ponniah who was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) allegedly for outraging religious sentiments.
