
BSF arrests cattle smuggler along Indo-Bangladesh border

The BSF on Thursday arrested a cattle smuggler near the India-Bangladesh border.
The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday arrested a Bangladeshi smuggler near the international boundary and seized one male calf.
Acting on specific inputs, the troops of Border Out Post Kaijuri, 153 Battalion had apprehended the Bangladeshi smuggler identified as Khokan Sardar (33) from Satkhira in Bangladesh.
During interrogation, Sardar alleged that he had illegally entered Indian territory through the Kalyani border five years ago, and went to Mumbai for labour work. Kalyani is a city in the Nadia district in West Bengal.
Sardar said that he worked for his elder brother, who has been living in India for the last 15 years. He further said that he had allegedly reached Howrah station on April 3 and had bought the male calf from Hattganj market for the purpose of smuggling it into Bangladesh.
The apprehended smuggler has been handed over to Swarupnagar Police Station for further legal action.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
