BRS moves Speaker to expunge derogatory comments of Congress member

BRS files complaint against Congress MLA for baseless allegations during Question Hour, seeks expunging of comments.

HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has complained against the Congress MLA from Warangal West constituency Nayini Rajender Reddy for the violation of Rule 319 (ii & iii), 320 and 45 during the Question Hour on Monday by making sweeping and baseless allegation that every BRS MLA has amassed ₹1,000 crore each.

In a complaint lodged with the Speaker’s office, the BRS Legislature Party has objected to the comments and said as per the Rule 319, a member, while speaking in the House, shall not make personal charges against any other member nor employ offensive expressions regarding the conduct of proceedings.

Similarly, Rule 320 explicitly states that no allegations of a defamatory or incriminatory nature shall be made against any person unless prior notification is given to the Speaker and the concerned minister. The rule also empowered the Speaker to prohibit any member from making such allegations if they are deemed derogatory to the dignity of the House or serve no public interest, the BRSLP said in the complaint.

Mr. Rajender Reddy was not a signatory to Question 445, during which he was granted permission to speak for about 3 minutes, deviating from the practices of the Assembly. The BRSLP has requested the Speaker to expunge the comments made by Mr. Rajender Reddy from the records under Rules 348 to 350. The Speaker assured the BRS legislators to examine the records and expunge the comments.
