BRS protests erupt in Telangana against SIT summons for KCR, clashing with police amid claims of political harassment.
HYDERABAD
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) cadre staged protests across Telangana on Sunday against summoning former Chief Minister and president of the party K. Chandrashekhar Rao by the special investigation team (SIT) in the case of alleged phone-tapping. Tension prevailed at several places as the police prevented them from taking out rallies, dharnas and effigy-burning.
At Telangana Bhavan, the party head office here, there was scuffle between the BRS workers and the police personnel several times as they tried to burn the effigies of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and to proceed towards Nandinagar residence of KCR, where he was being examined by the SIT as a witness in the case.
In several district and constituency headquarters the BRS leaders, including sitting and former MLAs, MLCs, MPs, former ministers and other senior leaders, led the rallies and other forms of protests including rasta-rokos, bike-rallies and black flag marches. They termed the SIT notice to KCR as political harassment, particularly with a vengeance.

Party leaders and former ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, S. Niranjan Reddy, G. Jagadish Reddy alleged that the case was foisted in the backdrop of a case booked against Mr. Revanth Reddy when he was with Telugu Desam Party and was caught red-handed with a bag containing bundles of huge cash to bribe an MLA seeking his support to TDP in the MLC election in 2015.
