
Bombay HC rejects plea of man convicted of raping minor girl at railway station

Rejecting an appeal by a rape convict, the Bombay HC directed the DLSA to compensate the rape survivor within six months. The man was convicted for raping a minor girl at Sindhudurgnagari railway station in 2015.
The Bombay High Court on Thursday rejected the appeal of a 31-year-old man who was sentenced to 12 years in jail by a trial court in Sindhudurg for raping a minor girl at the railway station in 2015. The Bombay HC also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to compensate the rape survivor within six months. The court also complimented the Kudal police for their “diligence and promptness” in investigating the case. The HC said the case “can be used as an ‘ideal case’, by the police, on how an investigation can be done”.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
