
Bombay HC asks BJP MLA to deposit 5 lakh security to hear PIL on Covid medicines

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation informed the court on Wednesday that the PIL was not maintainable as Shelar's personal interests were affected due to an order of the corporation.
The Bombay High Court has directed BJP MLA Ashish Shelar to pay a security deposit of Rs 5 lakh by next week after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) raised objections to public interest litigation (PIL) filed by him last year. The civic body informed the court on Wednesday that the PIL was not maintainable as Shelar's personal interests were affected due to an order of the corporation. Shelar had filed the PIL last year which seeks streamlining of medicines, disinfectants and sanitisers for Covid-19 to prevent profiteering by few. The PIL had said that hospital-acquired infection should be checked and disinfectant procurement by public hospitals should be of the highest standards to ensure the safety of common people, particularly the economically disadvantaged sections of society.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
