The BJP said on Wednesday that it will stage a protest in Udupi on Saturday, against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for completely ignoring Udupi district while presenting 2026-27 Budget proposals.
Addressing press persons in Udupi, the party’s Udupi city unit president Dinesh Amin said that Mr. Siddaramaiah has showed “step-motherly attitude” towards Udupi district.
The State Budget has ignored the development needs of the coastal region, he said, adding that the protest will be held at 4.30 pm near the old KSRTC bus stand.
A padayatra will also be organised from the office of Udupi MLA to the old KSRTC bus stand as part of the agitation. More than 1,000 people are expected to participate in the protest, he said.
Mr. Amin said people in the coastal district had high expectations regarding improvements in health, education, fisheries, tourism and basic infrastructure. However, no special schemes were announced or significant grants were made for the district, leading to widespread disappointment among people.
“Mr. Siddaramaiah forgot the very existence of Udupi district while presenting the Budget,” he alleged.
