
BJD demands caste census in Odisha, removal of 50% cap on reservation

The ruling BJD in Odisha has demanded a caste-based census in the state along with the removal of 50 per cent cap on reservation.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party in Odisha has reiterated its demand for a caste-based census in the state and removal of the cap of 50 percent on reservation. Addressing a joint press meet, Odisha’s Food Supplies Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain and Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo said a caste-based census will help know the actual strength of OBCs in the state which will further help the government to carry out developmental works for them accordingly.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
