Bhopal: Leopard spotted at Bhoj University Vice-Chancellor's house, triggers panic

A leopard was spotted at Bhoj University's Vice-Chancellor's residence on Sunday night, triggering panic.
Panic gripped Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal when a leopard was spotted at Bhoj University's Vice-Chancellor (VC) Jayant Sonwalkar's residence on Sunday night. The forest department was immediately called and a frenetic search was launched to trap the big cat, but in vain.
The forest department officials noticed the pug marks of the big cat and confirmed the presence of the leopard on the campus. A forest department official told Bhaskar that the pugmarks were found on the wet soil on the campus, so they appear big in size.
The forest team has asked the VC and the university authorities to remain vigilant.
At around 1.30 am on Sunday night, the security guards heard a roaring sound and detected some movement, only to find a leopard on the campus.
A report published in the Times of India (TOI) revealed that the leopard prowled the campus for about 20 minutes. Sonwalkar told TOI that the guards informed him that they had seen a leopard on the campus and asked him to keep all the doors and windows closed.
The Bhaskar report revealed that there was no CCTV footage available as the engineer was not present. However, this is not the first time that a leopard was spotted at the Bhoj University VC's residence. Even in 2019, a leopard was seen at his residence and Sonwalkar luckily survived.
After the 2019 incident, Sonwalkar raised the front boundary wall to 10 feet as a precautionary measure. This time, the leopard came from the rear, where the wall is 5-feet-high. The VC has asked the officials to raise this wall to 10 feet too.
