TMC's Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy tweeted that it was beyond the jurisdiction of the Governor to ask the West Bengal Election Commissioner to meet him after reports of violence in the polls.

With reports of violence making headlines during the civic polls of 100 plus civic bodies in West Bengal, the Bengal Governor summoned the State Election Commissioner over the reports after a BJP delegation visited him and asked for the governor's intervention.

TMC's Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy tweeted that it was beyond the jurisdiction of the Governor to ask the West Bengal EC CEO to meet him after reports of violence in the polls.

"The Governor has gone berserk to legitimise the wild allegations of the BJP regarding peaceful polling in the 107 bodies Municipal election in West Bengal by summoning the CEO which is beyond the jurisdiction of the Latt Saheb (as the Governor was during East India Company Rule)" read the tweet.

A BJP delegation had visited the Bengal Governor and spoke to Jagdeep Dhankhar asking him to intervene in view of violence in municipal elections.

Following that, the governor took to Twitter, and stated that he had summoned the State Election Commissioner, Saurab Das, in view of the various reports of violence during the polls. Governor Dhankar even mentioned that the SEC had 'failed'.

"State Election Commissioner Shri Saurab Das has been called upon to brief Guv anytime before 10 am tomorrow in view of alarmingly disturbing inputs, depicting scenarios of violence and lawlessness, with administration in partisan mode and systemic failure SEC,” wrote Jagdeep Dhankar.
