
Bengal post-poll violence: Calcutta HC orders CBI probe in alleged rape, murder cases

The Calcutta HC said that alleged cases of rape and murder will be handed over to the CBI. A special investigation team will also be set up to probe Bengal post-poll violence cases.
The Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered a court-monitored probe by the CBI into the alleged incidents of rape and murder as it heard a set of PILs on post-poll violence in Bengal. “All cases of murder and crimes of rape should be given to CBI for investigation,” the High Court said. For other cases, the court ordered a SIT headed by Suman bora Sahu and two other police officers.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
