
Bengal govt forms Task Force to monitor Covid beds in private hospitals

West Bengal has seen a steady increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases, prompting the Mamata-led government to form a four-member Task Force on augmentation of Covid beds in private hospitals and nursing homes.
With the number of Covid-19 cases and fatalities in West Bengal rising daily, the state government has established a four-member Task Force on augmentation of Covid beds in private hospitals and nursing homes. The Task Force will be led by Sanjay Bansal, the West Bengal government's Health Secretary, and will include Harikrishna Chanda, OSD Health Department, Dr Soma Sil, and Dr Arnab Roy from the Health Department. The decision to form a task force comes at a time when the number of cases is multiplying and there is a severe shortage of beds in different states.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
