Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked the Modi government over labourers not being paid wages under MGNREGA.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked the Modi government for not paying wages to the labourers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). She said the central government is playing a “dirty game.”
Mamata said that according to the law, labourers working under the 100-day project must get payment within 15 days. She said the central government is playing a “political dirty game” and has not paid money to the labourers for the last five months.
She said, “They work on a daily basis, but are not getting paid. I urge every TMC worker to protest against the central government and Modi to demand the payment that is due on June 5.” According to her, the total payment due to the labourers is Rs 6000 crores.
Mamata Banerjee was speaking in Asansol on the way to a four-day visit to Purulia and Bankura.
Earlier, she had written to the prime minister seeking his intervention to release funds for MGNREGA and PM Awas Yojana (PMAY).
