Baseless, says TMC after BJP accuses Bengal govt of snooping on Opp leaders using Pegasus

After the BJP accused the West Bengal government of spying on Opposition leaders using Pegasus, the TMC called the accusation "baseless."
West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar has alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led government used ‘Pegasus’ to snoop on opposition leaders in the state.
“As per the law, any government investigation agency can use Pegasus, as far as I know," said the Bengal BJP MP.Sukanta Majumdar further said that “sources” informed him that the West Bengal government used Pegasus to snoop on Opposition leaders in West Bengal.
"We've been told that the Bengal government used Pegasus to snoop on Opposition leaders," Majumdar said.
Responding to Sukanta Majumdar’s allegations that the West Bengal government used Pegasus for snooping on Opposition leaders, TMC MLA Madan Mitra stated that the BJP does not have enough leaders in the state to be snooped on.
“It is completely baseless. There are more people outside my house than in the BJP party office. Who will the government snoop on? If we had snooped on these people, our party workers would not have been killed,” Madan Mitra told India Today.
On Saturday, a report in the New York Times claimed that the Government of India bought Pegasus a military grade spyware from Israeli company NSO Group in 2017. The central government is yet to issue a statement in response to the report.
