Badly repaired road adds to motorists’ woes in Edamalaipattipudur

Civic works in Edamalaipattipudur causing traffic congestion, affecting businesses; poorly repaired roads lead to potholes and parking issues.
Long-drawn out civic works being carried out along the main road in Edamalaipattipudur has caused traffic congestion and adversely affected small to medium businesses in the area.
Roads which were dug for the underground drainage scheme works have been poorly repaired. “For the past few months, only one side of the road has been reopened to traffic; the other has still to be laid properly. The shops here that depend on daily stocks, such as vegetable sellers and groceries, are unable to get their delivery vehicles parked near their doorstep,” a local shopkeeper told The Hindu.
The repaired sections have developed potholes following the rains, making it difficult for motorists to use. The uneven pace of re-laying the excavated portions of the road has turned one section into an informal parking lot for mini-trucks.
During rush hour, vehicles are caught in a bottleneck near the flyover on both sides as they wait to either go up or come down safely.
With one lane being used for two-way traffic, pedestrians find it difficult to cross the road. A considerable number of bus services use the route to exit Tiruchi, usually at a high speed.
At the other end of the road, the project to widen the stretch between Panjapur and Edamalaipattipudur has also affected the regular flow of traffic, especially during night, as a major part of the thoroughfare does not have street lights.
