Belagavi mourns the loss of beloved Ayurvedic doctor Ashok Narayan Sakhadeo, known for his holistic healing and compassion.
Veteran Ayurvedic doctor Ashok Narayan Sakhadeo of Belagavi passed away in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. He was 84.
For over six decades, he practiced Ayurveda in his clinics on Meerapur Galli in Shahapur and his residence in Chidambar Nagar.
He is survived by his children Nitin Sakhadeo, Piyush Sakhadeo, Anagha Phansalkar, son-in -law and daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.
His last rites were conducted in Chidambar Nagar on Thursday. His wife Sunita Sakhadeo passed away a few decades ago.
Famed for his holistic healing approach, he was known as the people’s doctor. The first few minutes of his friendly conversation with patients acted as counselling.
He was a man of varied interests. He was among the founder members of the Belgaum District Chess Association. He was the quintessential family physician, biking through the narrow lanes of the Old City, to reach homes of the old, disabled and the bed-ridden.
“He was of a deep spiritual bent of mind and was never counted among those after fame or fortune. His patients decided what his fees will be. A box kept in the clinic served as the cash counter where patients will drop currency notes and at times, coins. He will bid them farewell, with a big smile,” recalled Dhiraj Khot, a long-time family friend.
