The Election Commission reduced the campaigning ban imposed on BJP leader and Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, citing his "unconditional apology" and "assurance" to follow the Model Code of Conduct.
The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday has accepted Assam minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma’s plea seeking a reduction in the duration of the campaign ban imposed on him from 48 to 24 hours. A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
