As power woes loom, India’s nuclear reactors fail to provide solar-like success

The recent coal crisis has raised an alarm as over 60 per cent of the electricity produced in the country is derived from thermal power plants, and thus, depend on coal.
India is among the five largest producers of electricity in the world. Nevertheless, it suffers from a significant shortage of power in catering to its large population. Adding to it, the recent coal crisis has raised an alarm as over 60 per cent of the electricity produced in the country is derived from thermal power plants, and thus, depend on coal.
Addressing this power concern with an environment-friendly approach needs large capacity addition by deploying multiple sources optimally. While India has seen a significant rise in solar and wind power generation over the last few years, the growth of nuclear energy seems stagnant. However, nuclear power can turn out to be a sustainable option for India’s power needs.
