As Delta variant sweeps U.S., COVID vaccinations rise in Arkansas : "They see the risk increasing"
CBSN
As Americans celebrate this July 4th weekend, there are concerns that low vaccination rates in some parts of the country could lead to new outbreaks of COVID- 19.
Only 17 states have fully vaccinated more than half their population, and with the more contagious Delta variant on the rise, there are fears that many people remain vulnerable. In Arkansas, only 34% of the population is fully vaccinated. But inside Trio's Restaurant in Little Rock, every single person in the restaurant was vaccinated except for one person. The statistic comes as a surprise to Capi Peck, the co-owner of Trio's Restaurant.Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
