Nirmala Sitharaman accused the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of giving a “perverse twist” to the debate on freebies.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of giving a “perverse twist” to the debate on freebies after the AAP national convenor slammed the Centre over its stand on the same.
“Arvind Kejriwal is giving a perverse twist to freebies on health and education. Health and education have never been called freebies. No Indian government has ever denied them. Kejriwal calling health and education 'freebies' is an attempt to bring a sense of worry and fear to the minds of the poor,” Sitharaman said.
Kejriwal earlier today hit out at the Centre and claimed that there seemed to be something wrong with the Centre's finances the way it was "strongly opposing" free facilities for people. The Delhi Chief Minister also claimed that the government waived Rs 10 lakh crore of loans and Rs 5 lakh crore of taxes of super rich people and their companies.
Arvind Kejriwal also slammed the government over taxing the poor.
“Even a very poor or a beggar will have to pay tax when he buys wheat and rice from the market. What was the condition of the central government that it was time to impose tax on the poorest of the poor?,” Arvind Kejriwal questioned.
