An arrest warrant has been issued against absconding Kerala actor Vijay Babu in connection with a case of sexual harassment. A Red Corner Notice is also expected to be issued against the actor in the coming days.
Kerala Police are intensifying the hunt after an arrest warrant was issued against absconding Malayalam film actor Vijay Babu in connection with a case of sexual harassment. An actress in the Malayalam film industry accused Vijay Babu of assaulting and sexually exploiting her.
A local court in Ernakulam has issued an arrest warrant against the accused as a prelude to issuing a Red Corner Notice (RCN), reported news organisation Malayalam Manorama.
A Red Corner Notice is issued by law enforcers of a country to seek the arrest or provisional arrest of wanted criminals with the intention of extraditing them to their home country to stand trial for crimes.
Following the issuance of the arrest warrant, photographs of the actor-cum-producer, Vijay Babu, along with the case details in which he is accused, will appear on the website of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) in the coming days.
Once a Red Corner Notice is issued, Dubai Police will be able to legally detain the actor and extradite him to India.
However, the police are not ruling out the chances of Vijay Babu crossing over to some other country, which does not have an agreement with India regarding handing over the accused in criminal cases, reported Malayalam Manorama.
The victim in the case, on April 22, filed a case against actor Vijay Babu, stating that he had physically assaulted her and sexually exploited her from March 13 to April 14, 2022.
