India “highly expects” the stability of neighbouring countries for regional security, says the General
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Wednesday called on Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, during his ongoing, four-day visit to the island nation.
The visit by India’s top military official comes a week after Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla’s visit to Sri Lanka that focused largely on expediting bilateral development and connectivity projects.
India’s strategic concerns are periodically aired in Sri Lanka, whose leaders have repeatedly assured New Delhi that no activity threatening its security would be permitted by Colombo.
With a new government in place in Delhi, Singapore hopes to schedule the Ministerial Roundtable with India shortly, says Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. In an exclusive interview, he speaks about the impact of the elections on ties, the “missed opportunity” of RCEP and the new buzz around Andhra Pradesh’s capital Amaravati.
