Archaeological dept begins 3-D survey of Taj Mahal

The Archaeological Department has begun a 3-D survey of the Taj Mahal.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has begun work on a 3-D survey with the help of a team of foreign experts. This survey will continue till March 25.

A senior official from the Department of Archeology told India Today that a 3-D survey of the Taj Mahal's walls, minarets, and domes is underway. Since March 10, a team of foreign experts has been performing the Taj Mahal's detailed condition assessment (DCA), which includes ten types of technology, including 3-D technology.

Every piece of information about the Taj Mahal is being gathered and will be used for conservation efforts. In the event that monuments are damaged due to disaster or for other reasons, this report will show what the condition of the monument was in 2022. The survey will also help in its repair or reconstruction, he said.

Agra Archaeological Department Chief Rajkumar Patel said that the three monuments across the country are being surveyed using cutting-edge technology for conservation. This is the "Pilot Project."

The team will remain in the Taj Mahal till March 25 and will compile a report, said Patel.

On the other hand, Vishal Sharma, Secretary of Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber, stated that if the Taj Mahal and other national monuments had been surveyed on a regular basis by Indian experts, there would have been no need to bring in experts from abroad.

Sharma said that both domestic and foreign tourists who visit the Taj Mahal are not provided with adequate facilities.
