Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurates Airport Predictive Operations Centre at RGIA in Hyderabad, leveraging AI & machine learning for seamless airport management.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, inaugurated the Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad on Wednesday (December 11, 2024).
The APOC, described as the brain of the airport, leverages advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to streamline operations and preempt potential disruptions. By integrating data from various airport systems, such as flights, baggage handling, and security, the APOC ensures seamless coordination, efficiency, and passenger convenience.
At RGIA, the APOC is divided into six operational hubs, or ‘islands’ each focusing on a specific aspect of airport management.
Sustainability Island facilitates effective communication between aircraft and the airport to ensure quicker turnaround times. It optimises baggage and cargo handling and coordinates with immigration and customs to streamline processes.
Air Side Island monitors aircraft movements on the tarmac, ensuring operational efficiency and addressing emergencies. It also keeps a watchful eye on bird activity, object, and debris movements to maintain safety standards.
Terminal Island is passenger-focused, addressing challenges like late arrivals. By optimising security checks, immigration, and boarding procedures, it ensures passengers reach their flights on time. It also provides real-time updates to travellers.
Land Side Island manages ground transport, including parking availability and cab demand. This island ensures smooth transitions for passengers from terminal exits to their onward journeys.

The Karnataka government on Friday handed over 10 cases related to two incidents that had turned into political flashpoints — the Hubballi woman “disrobing” case and the Ballari firing case in which a Congress worker was killed — to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a well-placed police source told The Hindu.
