A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested one more accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Kanpur.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots has arrested another accused in the Sikh riots where five Sikhs were murdered.
The SIT arrested Dinesh Kumar Shastri, a resident of Gonda, on Saturday. The probe agency has found Dinesh's role in two murders. As many as five Sikhs were killed in the massacres. So far, the SIT has arrested 37 accused in the anti-Sikh riots in Kanpur.

The SIT for probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots was constituted in February 2019. The term of the SIT is ending on September 30, so the government has extended the tenure of two months. After the extension, now the tenure of the SIT will be till November 30, 2022.
Officials say that by the stipulated date, the SIT will complete its work. Till now the tenure of SIT has been extended 6 times.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
