PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has lashed out at the BJP-led central government for endorsing The Kashmir Files, saying the film has given rise to anti-Muslim sentiment.
As controversy over The Kashmir Files simmers away, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has lashed out at the BJP-led central government for endorsing a movie that has given rise to anti-Muslim sentiment.
“Today, anti-Muslim slogans are being raised in cinema halls. And PM is promoting this movie.A filmmaker will make movies. He has to earn money. But why is the government promoting hate?” demanded Mehbooba Mufti in an exclusive interview with India Today.
The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister also referred to the case of Kaushar Bano in the 2002 Godhra violence to drive home the point that all Muslims should not be painted with the same brush.
“In Gujarat, a pregnant Muslim was brutally killed. Her foetus was removed by her killer with a sword. Should we blame all Gujaratis? No. Similarly, in Kashmir, there was a section of people who indulged in violence. Entire community is today being demonized,” she said.

Mufti said she had not watched The Kashmir Files because it has a lot of violence and she has already witnessed death and destruction on several occasions in the past and has no inclination to do so again second-hand.
She also appealed to the public to be circumspect while watching The Kashmir Files and not hate the Muslim community as a whole because of how certain characters are depicted in the film.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
