
Andhra govt announces free mass wedding programmes on Aug 7

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) announced that it will conduct a free mass marriage programme at all district headquarters in the state on August 7. The programme is being relaunched by state Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will conduct a free mass marriage programme, Sri Kalyanamasthu, at all district headquarters in Andhra Pradesh on August 7. The event had stopped after the demise of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy but will now be relaunched under the current state head, YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Speaking to media persons on Friday morning, TTD Chairman, Sri YV Subba Reddy said, “Honourable Chief Minister Sri YS Jaganmohan Reddy has decided to relaunch the programme that was stopped after the sad demise of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.”He added, “TTD Pandits had scheduled the first event of the Chandramana Shubakrut Nama samvatsara on Sunday morning between 08.07-08.17 am on Anuradha Nakshatra and Simha lagna.”He said the objective was to reduce the financial burden for weaker sections. Eligible couples could register their names at the offices of the concerned district collector, Revenue Division Officer (RDO) or Tehsildar.TTD Chairman also mentioned that the organisation was open to conducting such free wedding ceremonies in other parts of the country as well if other state governments came forward.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
