Amit Shah honours Olympic champion Mirabai Chanu

Chanu brought honour for the country by winning a medal at the Tokyo Olympic games and is now a proud member of the police force, said the Home Minister.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday felicitated Olympic champion Mirabai Chanu for bringing laurels to the country in weightlifting. The 27-year-old sportsperson, appointed as additional superintendent of police in her home state Manipur after the recent win, was honoured during the 51st raising day celebrations of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), a central government think tank. The Centre has rejected reports that the definition of the Aravalli hills was changed to permit large-scale mining, citing a Supreme Court-ordered freeze on new leases. It said a court-approved framework will bring over 90% of the Aravalli region under protected areas and strengthen safeguards against illegal mining. The clarification follows controversy over the “100-metre” criterion used to define hills across states.
