Once a thriving place for firecracker manufacturers, the city of Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district is facing economic crisis and uncernity as several states announce ban on crackers.
The city of Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district is known as a hub of firecracker manufacturers in India and has over 6.5 lakh people, directly and indirectly, dependent on this industry for their livelihood. Once a thriving industry, the firecracker manufacturing units in the city are facing an economic crisis and uncertainty as several states announce a ban on crackers.
Sivakasi has been fighting a long battle to sell its firecrackers in the country for the last few years. Despite turning their production towards green crackers, they face uncertainty as several states have put a blanket ban on the use of crackers.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
