The president of the Shri Krishana Janma Bhumi Mukti Dal has petitioned the Supreme Court saying that they would like to worship the Shivling reportedly found inside Gyanvapi mosque,
A plea in the Supreme Court has sought permission for the disciples and followers of Lord Shiva to pray to the Shivling reportedly found inside the wazukhana or reservoir in the Gyanvapi mosque complex during a court-ordered survey.
The president of the Shri Krishana Janma Bhumi Mukti Dal - the petitioner - has told the court that they would like to carry out their religious practices on the Shivling as guaranteed under the Constitution.
Although the Shivling is protected by court orders, there are no restrictions for the devotees of Lord Shiva to offer prayers and perform rituals at the place, the petition said.
Wazu is being performed near the Shivling and it is painful for the followers of Lord Shiva, it added.

The petitioner also referred to the Ayodhya case where it was held that “once a deity is always a deity and a temple, merely on being demolished, shall not lose its character, sanctity or dignity”.
It has been revealed from various records that the Gyanvapi Mosque was built after demolishing a Shiv temple. The Shivlinga was found on the same premises during the survey, the plea said.
