The original suit was filed in 1991 in a Varanasi court seeking restoration of the temple at the site where the Gyanvapi mosque presently stands.
The Allahabad high court will resume the hearing in the Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi mosque complex case on Friday, May 20.
Earlier this week, the court had adjourned the hearing in the case till May 20 due to paucity of time. The hearing will be held at 12 pm today.
THE GYANVAPI CASE
A petition filed in 1991 in a Varanasi court claimed that the Gyanvapi Mosque was built on the orders of Aurangzeb by demolishing a part of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple during his reign in the 16th century. The petitioners and local priests sought permission to worship in the Gyanvapi Mosque complex.

The counsel appearing on behalf of the temple argued that the property in dispute was not a waqf property and the provisions of the Waqf Act were not applicable here.
The Muslim side, which includes Masjid's Arrangement Committee and the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, has however, invoked the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
