Nasty scenes unfolded on Friday, 16 September in the Duleep Trophy fixture between West and Central Zone when medium pacer Chintan Gaja hit Venkatesh Iyer with the ball just below his neck. Iyer, who had defended the delivery back to the bowler was caught off guard when Gaja chose to hurl it back at him in frustration. The Central Zone batter went straight down on the ground, wincing in pain. As the ambulance was called in the middle of the pitch, Iyer was able to get back on his feet and was taken for precautionary medical checks.

While the fans called for a suspension of the medium pacer, it looks like India all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer and the bowler have mended things up between themselves and chosen to move on from what could have been a big controversy in Indian domestic cricket.
Gaja, posted a photo once Iyer was able to come back from hospital on the next day and captioned it 'All Love no hatered'.
Iyer on the other hand revealed to Cricbuzz that he was absolutely fine but he did not know if he would be allowed to get back in the game. The batter did come out in the first innings after getting retired hurt, but was not able to last long.
