On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached 11 flats belonging to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s brother-in-law Shridhar Patankar in a money laundering case. One Nandkishore Chaturvedi stood out as officials revealed him to be one of the biggest Hawala operators and money launderers in India.
In this case, Chaturvedi's shell company Humsafar Dealers Pvt Ltd gave unsecured loans to firms owned and controlled by Shridhar Patankar. This loan money was then laundered through him and parked in companies owned by Patankar.
Nandkishore Chaturvedi, according to sources, is a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura. A chartered accountant by profession, he started out as a financial planner for small businessmen and slowly moved on to helping them launder money through fake invoices and small-time operators.
Soon, he learnt the tricks of the trade and began propping up shell companies on his own and providing entries for invoices and share premiums to businesses. His clientele grew with time and by the mid-2000s, he was helping people with political connections.

His name initially came up in the Pushpak bullion case after the demonetization drive of 2016 and the Enforcement Directorate began looking for him in 2017.
Chaturvedi is facing an ED probe for allegedly helping people with connections to two former chief ministers of a north Indian state and a senior leader and political family from Maharashtra launder huge amounts of money. He is wanted in several cases by the financial probe agency and a lookout circular has been issued against him, sources told India Today TV.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
