Airbus opens 5,000 seater technology centre near Bengaluru

Airbus opens 5,000 seater technology centre near Bengaluru

Airbus opens a 5,000-seater technology centre in Bengaluru, boosting India's role in aerospace engineering and digital innovation.

Airbus opened a 5,000 seater technology centre in the outskirts of Bengaluru on Friday (March 6, 2026), marking a major expansion of its strategic footprint in India, where the European aerospace corporation, has already over 30,000 employees.

The new 8,80,000 sq. ft facility will serve as a hub for engineering, digital transformation, customer services and procurement and it will serve as a new nerve centre for the company’s ‘Make in India’ mission, according to company leadership.

Jürgen Westermeier, president and managing director of Airbus in India and South Asia said, the opening of Airbus India Technology Centre represented a strategic acceleration in the company’s journey in India. “It provides the scale and headroom for our next phase of growth. This centre will allow us to scale existing technological competencies and innovation ecosystems. It ensures that Indian expertise continues to be woven into every stage of our global value chain,’’ he said.

As Airbus’ largest engineering and digital centre outside Europe, the work performed here would be integrated into the entire lifecycle of the aircraft: Indian engineers and digital specialists now help maintain and optimise all existing Airbus commercial aircraft and helicopter programmes. From maintaining critical aircraft technologies to pioneering research into next-generation aircraft, cyber security, robotics and AI, this facility would drive innovations of tomorrow, company’s top officials said.

Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Minister of Civil Aviation, said Bengaluru has become the aviation, aerospace and defence manufacturing capital of the country and the opening of this centre further strengthened the City’s position as a global aviation hub.

“This campus represents the confidence of India and confidence that the world has in India’s technological capabilities,’’ the Minister said while speaking on a video link adding, critical technologies in every Airbus aircraft and helicopter will be designed and developed by Indian engineers in Bengaluru.
