Agreement signed for Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority, addressing Eastern Nagaland's concerns, with support from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
A tripartite agreement for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority has been signed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), Nagaland Government on Thursday (February 5, 2026).
“After Nagaland was created, the people of Eastern Nagaland had an inhibition that they will be ignored, today the negotiations have reached a positive outcome,” Home Minister Amit Shah said on the signing of agreement for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority
“Around 12 years ago, ENPO had decided to boycott the elections. ENPO and Nagaland Government could reach an agreement for a logical agreement with their efforts today. MHA will fund the territorial authority and extend all possible help,” Mr. Shah said.
Mr. Shah was dressed up in a traditional Naga outfit in the presence of Nagaland CM Nephiu Rio, ahead of the signing of the agreement between the Union Government, the Nagaland Government, and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO).
In 2022, ENPO members met the Home Minister, and work began on the agreement. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan said that Eastern Nagaland’s local aspirations will be met through this memorandum of understanding.
The ENPO, an apex organisation representing Naga tribes, has been spearheading the demand for the creation of the FNT comprising six districts in undivided Tuensang — Kiphire, Longleng, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, and Tuensang.
