
Agra sees increase in daily Covid cases as lockdown curbs ease partially

229 people died in Agra between April 1 and May 21 as a result of an increase in Covid-19 cases, as per the district administration data.
Agra on Friday reported an increase in new Covid-19 cases as well as daily deaths on Friday. Although the Covid infection appears to be under control presently, a slight rise in cases has been reported since the lockdown was partially lifted. While there were only 13 new positive cases when the lockdown was lifted on Tuesday, the number increased to 25 on Thursday and 33 on Friday. All historical monuments in Agra are currently closed until June 15, but given the rate at which positive cases are resurfacing in the city, the reopening date may be extended. Meanwhile, District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh visited the vaccination centres in an effort to promote vaccination among the age group of 18 and above population.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
