Agra: 8 Covid patients die due to lack of oxygen days after UP govt's claim of no shortages

Hospitals in Uttar Pradesh's Agra are struggling to house and treat Covid-19 patients owing to an acute shortage of beds and medical oxygen. Eight patients died at one hospital in Agra, reportedly due to a lack of oxygen.

India is witnessing an unprecedented surge in Covid-19 cases and the state of Uttar Pradesh is no exception. Days after UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's statement that the state had no shortage of medical supplies, eight patients died at a hospital in Agra owing to the lack of medical oxygen. Seven to eight coronavirus patients died at Paras Hospital in Agra due to a shortage of medical oxygen. We have alerted the district administration about the same, said hospital employee Tanu Chaturvedi. District Magistrate, Agra, Prabhu Singh said there was a shortage of medical oxygen in the last 24 hours but the same will be resolved soon. The sudden spike in the number of patients led to a surge in demand, adds Prabhu Singh.
