North coastal Andhra Pradesh receives light rain from Cyclone Fengal remnants, impacting tourist spots and prompting safety measures.
Many parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh received incessant light rain on Monday due to the impact of the remnants of Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall on the Tamil Nadu coast on the south coastal Andhra Pradesh border on Saturday.
The agency pockets of Alluri Seetharama Raju (ASR) district mainly received the rainfall.
From 8.31 a.m. to 7 p.m., 21 mm of rainfall was recorded in the areas surrounding Borra Caves, a popular tourist spot, and Anantgiri, 20 mm in Chinturu, 4.5 mm in Y. Ramavaram and 3 mm in Paderu. As per the last 24 hours of rainfall data, 38.25 mm was recorded in Anantgiri.
Since the agency areas are hilly areas and there is a possibility of rocks sliding down on the roads during rains, government officials instructed the staff to keep a close watch on water bodies, sensitive areas and ghat roads where such incidents could occur. The officials were particularly asked to focus on ghat roads in tourist places.
Besides taking safety measures for tourists, the police were also asked to monitor visitors for rash and drink driving on the ghat roads.
“We are constantly monitoring the condition of our tracks. We do not have any problems on the Kothavalasa-Kirandul railway line as of Monday,” a spokesperson from the Waltair railway division told The Hindu.
On the other hand, around 11 mm of rainfall was recorded at Pedagantyada in Visakhapatnam city. Showers associated with chilly breeze continued throughout the day. Denizens enjoyed their day on the beach roads, particularly at the RK beach, and Rushikonda. Many visited temples signifying the end of the Karthika Masam and welcoming the Margashira Masam.
