After Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced to a one-year jail term, now the party high command's decision on Sidhu is awaited,
Former Punjab Congress Committee Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced to a one-year jail term on Thursday in the 1988 road rage case. The sentencing comes at a time when his political career has been on a downward trend.
After losing the assembly election, Sidhu was forced to resign as Punjab Congress chief and later has been facing party action for indiscipline and alleged anti- party activities.
While the party leaders avoided commenting on the court decision, Sidhu's opponents, including Captain Amrinder Singh and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa have welcomed the court's verdict.

Former Punjab Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhava, while reacting to Sidhu's sentencing, said, "What the party could not do has been done by the court.'
"Navjot Singh Sidhu is a comedian and his TRP is quite high. People do not consider him a leader. He is only liked by those who like theaterics (nautankibaz)," Randhava said, adding that the loss caused by Sidhu to the party is irreparable.
Usually calling Navjot Sidhu an unstable person, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh has also accused Sidhu of weakening the party.
