After failing Neet once, 18-year-old Chennai boy kills self days before second attempt

An 18-year-old Chennai boy, who was a Neet aspirant killed himself at his home. He had failed the exam in 2021, and days before he was scheduled to attempt the exam a second time, his mother found him hanging by his belt from a hook at their home.

An 18-year-old boy, who was a National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Neet) aspirant, killed himself at his house in Chennai. The boy, identified as Dhanush, had completed his schooling in 2020 and failed his first Neet attempt in 2021. He was to appear for Neet a second time on July 17, 2022.

Just days before the exam, Dhanush was found hanging at his residence. The incident came to light on June 29, when his mother came home from work. As the door was not properly locked, Dhanush's mother walked into the house and was shocked to find her son hanging from a cement hook with the help of his belt.

She immediately called for help, and her neighbours rushed the boy to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital. But, the doctors said that he was already dead. His body has been kept for postmortem at the KMC hospital.

Dhanush was the second son of Pratap, an auto driver. Dhanush's mother worked as a daily wage labourer.

Tamil Nadu has been insisting on a ban on Neet, stating that the competitive exam has been putting several students from the economically weaker sections at a disadvantage and has even pushed several students to the extreme of taking their own lives.
